MOL nears charter deal for Uruguay FSRU project

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines on Tuesday said its unit, Lakler, agreed to conclude a charter contract with Gas Sayago for the FSRU project in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The company revealed in its statement that a final deal with Gas Sayago, a joint venture between Uruguay’s state oil company ANCAP and state power company UTE could be signed in June this year.

The FSRU that will serve this project is currently under construction at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea.

MOL claims the vessel will be equipped with the largest LNG storage tank of any FSRU in the world, with the capacity to hold up to 263,000 cubic meters.

After completion at the shipyard, it will travel to Uruguay to begin LNG receiving and regasifying operations.

According to an agreement reached in October, the FSRU named GNL del Plata is expected to arrive in Uruguay and be ready for service mid-2017.
