MOL takes delivery of Marvel Heron LNG carrier

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of the LNG carrier Marvel Heron, the second of three newbuilds chartered by Mitsui & Co.

Before the delivery, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding held a naming ceremony at the Nagasaki Shipyard Koyagi Plant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, at the end of August.

The vessel will sail under charter contracts signed with Mitsui & Co. in September 2014 and January 2015, mainly transporting LNG from the Mitsui & Co.-backed Cameron LNG project in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

The Marvel Heron adopts the hybrid dual-shaft Steam Turbine and Gas Engine (STaGE) propulsion system.

The vessel has an overall length of 297.5 meters, a width of 48.94 meters, depth of 27.5 meters, and a draft of 11.4 meters, and is capable of transporting 177,000 cubic meters of the chilled fuel.
