New Investor & Partner for Trident Subsea Cable

New Investor & Partner for Trident Subsea Cable

Diamond Communications, a subsidiary of mining services company Ausdrill, will invest in Trident Subsea Cable, Australian fibre cable provider. Apart from an undisclosed investment amount, which is said to be used as working capital to accelerate a new submarine cable network in Western Australia, Diamond Communications will be directly involved in the implementation as a strategic designer and construction partner.

The partnership will involve construction of a fibre optic telecommunications network between Perth and the Pilbara.

According to Trident CEO Mark de Kock  the project realization is set to begin early 2014, when the company’s technology partners for the submarine cable build will be announced.

The project entails both submarine and terrestrial network legs that will link Perth to the Pilbara and subsequently to Jakarta and Singapore. Two landing points, which will be used to service major mining projects in the state, are envisaged in the Northwest: in Onslow and Karratha.

The company has established a partnership with existing submarine cable player Matrix Networks, under which Matrix will provide two fibre pairs on its cable as well as two branching units on the system.
