Nexans Electra sports its major systems

Major systems have been installed, powered and progressively brought online on board Nexans’ new cable-laying vessel (CLV) Nexans Electra, the French cable systems designer and manufacturer reported.

Based on the ST-297 CLV design by Skipsteknisk, Nexans Electra, ordered as the second vessel by Nexans at Norway’s Ulstein Verft, is an updated version of the sister vessel Nexans Aurora, delivered in 2021.

Ulstein Verft launched the vessel’s hull from the dock hall on November 13, 2025, marking the start of the final phase of testing and tuning.

Nexans reported today, February 6, that the build and commissioning of Nexans Electra continues at full speed, with steady progress across the vessel and completion expected in the spring.

“Over the past weeks, major systems have been installed, powered and progressively brought online, both above and below deck. Visible milestones are taking shape daily, including the erection of the large deck turntable and the continued outfitting of key installation and high-voltage cable handling systems,” Nexans said on its social media.

The vessel, 155.2 meters long and 31 meters wide, is equipped with three turntables boasting a 13,500-ton loading capacity. It will be capable of bundle laying of up to four cables simultaneously, hosting a range of subsea tooling, including jetting and burial tools.

Palfinger is delivering a comprehensive equipment package, Remacut, part of NOV, the cable-lay equipment, Red Rock an upgraded crane package, and Hydroniq Coolers several of its Pleat seawater coolers.
