Nexen awards Emerson with five-year metering deal

Nexen Petroleum UK, a subsidiary of China’s CNOOC, has awarded Emerson a five-year contract to provide metering management services for Nexen’s UK operations.

Emerson said on Wednesday that the work will be managed from Emerson’s new Solutions Center in Aberdeen.

The scope of the contract entails providing onshore metering engineers as well as offshore metering and analyzer technicians for Nexen’s UK offshore facilities.

Emerson staff will be responsible for validating and reporting measurement data and metering, sampling, analytical and test equipment, as well as supporting all offshore metering maintenance and verification activities.

Roel van Doren, president of Emerson Process Management Europe, said: “For oil and gas companies, the accuracy and integrity of their fiscal and custody transfer metering systems are critical for customer confidence. This contract builds on our proven success in helping companies achieve those objectives.”

Metering systems provide accurate, reliable measurements essential for fiscal accounting, custody transfer and taxation purposes.

Nexen is one of the largest energy producers in the UK. Among others, Nexen Petroleum UK operates two largest oil discoveries in the UK North Sea, Buzzard which was discovered in 2001 and the Golden Eagle which produced first oil on October 30, 2014.
