NOC Names New Director of Science & Technology

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) has appointed Professor Angela Hatton as its new director of science & technology to succeed Professor Ian Wright who is leaving NOC to take up the position of deputy vice chancellor (research & innovation) at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.

Angela is a microbial biogeochemist and a director of research at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS).

She previously held research positions at SAMS and the University of East Anglia where she held two Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) fellowships and obtained her PhD.

Angela was elected a fellow of Royal Society of Biology in 2014 and is currently chair of NERC’s science board.

Professor Edward Hill, executive director of NOC said, “I am delighted that Angela Hatton will be joining the National Oceanography Centre. She brings a wealth of highly relevant knowledge and experience.”

Professor Angela Hatton said, “These are interesting and exciting times for NOC; addressing globally significant challenges, driving forward technology development and conducting science that has a positive impact on society and the economy. I’m delighted to be able to take up the challenge of helping NOC achieve this and to strengthen partnerships with the marine science community in the UK and around the world.”

Angela will take up her appointment on December 01, 2016, NOC informed.
