Nordic Hamburg Books Four Boxships at Huatai Heavy Industry

Germany’s Nordic Hamburg has ordered four 1,400 TEU dual-fuel container ships from the recently restructured Huatai Heavy Industry (Nantong) Co in China.

The shipbuilding contract was signed in Shanghai on November 3.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The first 170 meter boxship is scheduled for delivery in late 2017.

The vessels will be classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Back in 2014, ABS was also chosen to class two dual-fuel, 1,400 TEU boxships ordered by GNS Shipping/Nordic Hamburg, and scheduled for delivery in 2016.

Huatai Heavy completed the restructuring in August 2014, and has constructed and delivered three 38,500 dwt bulk carriers since January 2015.
