Norvik Becomes Chairman of DeepOcean

DeepOcean’s board of directors has elected Harald Norvik to serve as its chairman.

Norvik joined the DeepOcean board of directors in July 2011. He is an independent consultant and advisor with more than 30 years of public and private sector experience, a large portion of which was in senior management positions overseeing operations in offshore oil and gas markets, including subsea construction and deepwater operations.

Thomas Thune Andersen, who resigned as chairman and member of DeepOcean’s board of directors, commented: “I have decided to step down from the Board to focus on other professional commitments. I would like to thank all my colleagues, the leadership team and board members for the very constructive and inspirational time together for the last many years.”

“It is a privilege that Harald has agreed to become chairman of DeepOcean. He knows the oil industry and DeepOcean very well. We are sad that Thomas has made the decision to step down from the Board of Directors. He has served on the Board since July 2011 and has been a great leader for the Company,” stated Bart Heijermans, DeepOcean’s CEO.

Norvik spent 11 years as CEO with Statoil during which time Statoil made the transition to private ownership, and he has also held several senior management roles with the Aker Group. He currently serves on the boards of ConocoPhillips, Petroleum Geo-Services ASA, Aschehoug ASA and Umoe ASA. He was chairman and a partner at Econ Management AS from 2002 to 2008 and was a strategic advisor there from 2008 to 2010. He served as Chairman of the Board of Telenor ASA from 2007 to 2012 and as Chairman, President and CEO of Statoil from 1988 to 1999. Norvik served as deputy minister/State Secretary for Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy from 1979 to 1981, Personal Secretary to the Norwegian Prime Minister from 1976 to 1979, and he has held various other positions with governmental organizations throughout his career.

Norvik will be acting chairman until formally granted the title chairman by the annual general meeting of DeepOcean on April 13, 2016.
