Norway: Olympic Orders MPSV at Kleven Maritime

Business & Finance

Olympic Shipping has entered into a contract for delivery of one Offshore Support Vessel at Myklebust Verft, a yard in the Kleven Maritime group in Norway. Delivery is agreed as September 2011.

Olympic Shipping has entered into a contract with Myklebust Verft, a yard in the Kleven Maritime group for the delivery of one advanced Offshore Support Vessel of the MT 6009 L design by Norwegian design company Marin Teknikk. The vessel is to be built at the yard Myklebust Verft in Gursken, Norway, with delivery set for September 2011. The early delivery is made possible due to the fact that the yard will utilize a hull which is already built and ready for outfitting.

For the employees at Myklebust Verft this means that there is no need for layoffs at the yard, a situation which for some time has been anticipated. Prior to this contract a layoff period of 2 – 3 months was indicated, which is now avoided, making this a very welcome signing.

The vessel, designed by Norwegian design company Marin Teknikk, has an overall length of 79,7 meters, a beam of 16,8 meters, deck space of 745 m2, and a dead weight of 3 500 tons. The accommodation area has a capacity of 40 persons and the vessel will include facilities that will make it well suited to ROV and subsea construction work.

Kleven Maritime now has an orderbook of 11 vessels at a value of NOK 4,5 billion.

Including this contract Olympic has over a short period of time signed vessels to a value of NOK 1 billion with Kleven Maritime.

“We are well pleased to have signed contracts with a local supplier where a large part of the total supply to the vessels has been awarded locally. This fact illustrates that the local maritime cluster is competitive” owner Stig Remøy states in a comment.
