Norway: Vestland Offshore Contracts Hellesøy Verft to Build VS 485 Mk III PSV

Norwegian shipyard Hellesøy Verft has been contracted to build a 5000dwt platform supply vessel (PSV) for Vestland Offshore based on Wärtsilä’s new VS 485 Mk III design.

In response to the Norwegian shipowner’s demand for a modern, high quality, and fuel efficient PSV, Wärtsilä Ship Design has developed a highly energy and environmentally efficient vessel solution. Based on its established VS 485 design, the new vessel has an optimised hull design for greater efficiency, with corresponding reduced emission to air.

The 85.6m long, 20m wide vessel will be fitted with four Wärtsilä 9L20 gen sets and is scheduled for delivery in 2012

The new design is said to be one of the most costly and fuel-efficient supply vessels ever to be launched.
