Norwegian LNG on way to Lithuania

The largest of the three Baltic nations, Lithuania is to receive another cargo of liquefied natural gas from Statoil’s Hammerfest LNG facility in Norway.

The 155,000 cubic meters Arctic Aurora is expected to arrive at Höegh LNG’s FSRU Independence serving as Lithuania’s LNG import terminal in the port of Klaipeda around June 7, according to the port data.

The Arctic Aurora, owned by Dynagas, is currently operating under a time charter with Norway’s Statoil with an initial term of five years that expires in July 2018.

Lithuania started importing LNG in December 2014 in order to reduce its dependence on Russian gas supplies.

The Baltic country revised the LNG import deal it has with Statoil in January cutting the price by 15-20 percent. The contract has been extended from five to 10 years while the volume Lithuania will import from Norway increased from 2.7 billion cubic meters to 3.7 bcm.
