Nova Scotia grants FIT for tidal projects
Nova Scotia’s Utility and Review Board has approved a power purchase agreement for tidal array projects slated for construction in 2015.
The power purchase agreement and the developmental feed-in tariffs (FIT) will be granted for the period of 15 years.
The feed-in tariffs span from 37.5 cents per kW/h to 57.5 cents kW/h for tidal arrays with the capacity larger than 500 kW.
Canadian government granted the developmental feed-in tariff to four tidal energy developers:
- Minas Energy, 4 MW
- Black Rock Tidal Power, 5 MW
- Atlantis Operations Canada, 4.5 MW
- Cape Sharp Tidal Venture, 4 MW
Tidal arrays will be located in the Bay of Fundy, at Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) test sites.
