NYK Coal Carrier Shin-Sakaide Rescues Two French Sailors in Distress

On July 29, Shin-Sakaide, an NYK coal carrier, rescued two French sailors in a troubled small motorboat off the east coast of Australia.

The Frenchmen requested rescue after the helm of their wooden motorboat broke. Shin-Sakaide was sailing from Matsuura, Nagasaki, to Newcastle, Australia, when the Rescue Coordination Centre-Australia (RCC Australia) radioed a request to rescue at around 1:10 a.m. (local time) on July 29. Shin-Sakaide rushed to the area, and at about 3:16 a.m., found and rescued the two Frenchmen off the east coast of Australia.
