Amsterdam’s historic city centre with it’s beautiful canals has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. The best way to see the canals is by boat. Join a canal cruise or even better, rent a boat yourself.

The Netherlands is famous for its painters; Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh and many others. The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum have an extended collection of Dutch cultural heritage. Also, the Anne Frank House is a museum you do not want to miss.

Amsterdam is an excellent city for shopping. The major shopping streets are the Kalverstraat and Leidsestraat. You will find fancy little boutiques in the Nine Streets (Jordaan) and the Haarlemmerstraat. Visit the P.C. Hooftstraat for haute couture and the Nieuwe Spiegelstraat for antique shops.

Are you looking for entertainment? Then Amsterdam is the place to be! You can find over 1,215 cafés and bars of all kinds (traditional ‘brown’ cafés, grand cafés, beer cafés, theatre cafés, lounge bars and coffee shops). At night you could go clubbing or visit one of the top music hotspots: Bimhuis, Paradiso, Melkweg, AFAS Live or the Ziggo Dome.

Amsterdam has more than 1,250 restaurants. Close to the Amsterdam RAI you’ll find plenty of places to eat. The Okura Hotel (5 minute walk) has three excellent haute cuisine restaurants. The nearby “Vis aan de Schelde” serves delicious fish dishes. Other options in the city are “Restaurant Amsterdam” (French cuisine), “de Goudfazant” (French cuisine) and “Incanto” (Italian cuisine). All three restaurants serve excellent food. If you are looking for a more vibrant atmosphere, go to the “Pijp” (Amsterdam’s Latin quarter) where there’s lively mixture of food culture.
