Pakistan looking for second FSRU

Energy crippled Pakistan issued a tender seeking a second floating storage and regasification unit that would serve as the state’s LNG import terminal.

An unnamed government official was cited by Reuters as saying that the tender was launched earlier in January while the deadline for bid submissions is set for January 24.

The official noted that the second FSRU, with the accompanying infrastructure, would be built at Port Qasim where the country’s first FSRU, the Exquisite provided by Excelerate Energy, is already located. A new jetty and a pipeline would have to be built and interested companies are invited to bid for a complete project or just a part of it.

The terminal is expected to enter operation by mid-2017.

Without revealing detail, the official added that the tender was launched as a previous deal with Sui Southern Gas Company hit a roadblock.
