Papua New Guinea: PNG LNG Offshore Pipeline Construction Commences

Papua New Guinea PNG LNG Offshore Pipeline Construction Commences

Construction of the offshore pipeline for the PNG LNG Project has started, with the first lengths of  pipe laid near the LNG Plant.

The pipeline, which will be 407 kilometres long, stretches from Omati in the Gulf Province to the LNG Plant. The pipeline is 36 inches in diameter and will be laid from two offshore pipe laying vessels, the Semac 1 and the Castoro 10.

The first part of the pipelay was the “shore pull” which involved pulling the pipe to shore to be connected to the pipe on land. The Semac 1 will continue to lay the pipe along the sea floor. The process is expected to be completed in 2012.
