PHOTO: ‘Ship of the Year’ up-close and personal

Construction support vessel Skandi Africa has been caught on camera while arriving in the Port of Blyth, England.

Port of Blyth shared via social media a photo of Norway’s ‘Ship of the Year 2015’, the Skandi Africa, while passing the Blyth Boat House Restaurant on its way to the port.

According to data found on the port’s website, the vessel’s last port prior to its arrival on Tuesday, was Las Palmas. The Skandi Africa is set to leave the Port of Blyth on Saturday, June 11.

The Skandi Africa is owned by DOF, owner and operator of a fleet of offshore and subsea vessels, and is currently on a long-term contract with Technip.

The offshore construction support vessel, built by VARD, was delivered in October 2015. The construction on the DP class 3 OCSV began in 2014. It is designed for harsh environment and deepwater subsea construction and flexlay operations up to 3000m depth.  Since delivery, it has been a part of Technip’s fleet as per long-term charter contract.

The vessel is one of the most advanced ships of the DOF fleet with its 900 tonnes active heave compensated main crane, 650 tonnes Tiltable Lay System, a large 2700 square meters deck area and two work-class ROVs rated for 4000m depth.
