P&O Ports to Turn Around Small and Medium-Sized Ports

The government of Dubai has launched a new port operator named P&O Ports.

The company is a subsidiary of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and will operate as a separate entity to DP World, focusing its business on the operation of small to medium-sized, multi-purpose ports worldwide.

HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of PCFC, said that P&O Ports had signed MOUs to enter into preliminary talks with the governments of Madagascar, the Port of Berbera in the Republic of Somaliland and Albania to enhance their port infrastructure, the Gulf Business reports.

According to him, the establishment of the company will pave way for a ‘turnaround’ of small to medium-sized ports that were congested and prone to delays due to inefficient management cutting waiting times by 50% to 60%.
