Gdynia Naval Shipyard Welcomes Deputy Minister of Defence

On July 6th the Under Secretary of State in MOD for Armament and Modernization Mr. Waldemar Skrzypczak visited Gdynia Naval Shipyard. The visit started in the building hall, where the Multi-purpose Corvette of 621 Project is being built.

The new corvette design has been elaborated in co-operation with the German shipyard Blohm + Voss GmbH from Hamburg, based on the MEKO design concept and the latest “stealth” technology which reduces the radar signature. The type 621 corvette will have the characteristics as follows: full load displacement of 2050 t, length overall 95.2 m, max. beam 13.3, m and draught 3.6 m. The propulsion system arranged in CODAG configuration with one gas turbine and two diesel engines will guarantee the maximum speed of 30 knots. The corvette will be equipped with a new generation armament including vertical launching system for medium range ESSM type SAM and multiple short-range RAM launcher, RBS 15 Mk3 SSM, a multipurpose 76 mm automatic gun, 324 mm ASW torpedo tubes and ASW depth-charge mortars. The corvette will have a landing platform for one multipurpose naval helicopter. The corvette will be provided with modern fully integrated surveillance, fire control, command and control systems.

The Deputy Minister visited also other vessels of Polish Navy, being repaired or modernized currently in NSG. After the short tour over the Shipyard Site, the talks were continued in the head office.
