PPA Marks 6% Increase in Monthly Iron Ore Exports

Australia’s Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) recorded 36.6 million tonnes (Mt) of iron ore exports in March, an increase of 2.1Mt or 6% from the same month in 2014, suggesting that China’s demand for iron ore is not subsiding despite a weak market.

PPA delivered a total monthly throughput of 50.1 million tonnes (Mt) for the month of March.

The port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 37.1Mt, an increase of 1.9Mt or 5% from the same month in 2014, and the third largest volume ever.

The Port of Dampier delivered a total monthly throughput of 13.1Mt, a slight decrease of 1.5Mt or 11% from the previous year.

Imports totalled 64,000 tonnes, an increase of 20,000 tonnes or 45% from the same month in 2014.
