Project Aquabots at RDM Rotterdam

Part of project ‘Aquabots’ is a battle between two teams of mechanical engineering students. They battle each other with their autonomous and zero-emission floating drones to clean up the plastic soup in the oceans, for example.

Each team builds on the experiences of its predecessor and the project assignment gets more complex every time. RDM Rotterdam initiates this project because they want to encourage more students to choose a technical education and teach them how to collaborate with students of other disciplines and education levels. Ultimate goal is a vessel that independently carries out assignments.

Project Aquabots is organised by the RDM Centre of Expertise of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. This centre is located at RDM Rotterdam, the innovation showcase for the Rotterdam port area, where applied science is visualised in an attractive way.

Right in the port area the former shipyard of the Rotterdam Drydock Company (RDM) accommodates businesses, education and research. Together they are shaping the new manufacturing industry for port and city. A wide range of business and cultural events complements it and makes for a dynamic and energetic location. RDM Rotterdam is shaped by the Port of Rotterdam Authority and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
