Protean wraps up initial WEC deployment phase

Protean Wave Energy has completed the initial phase of the stage one wave energy farm demonstration deployment off Bunbury, Western Australia.

The initial phase of the stage one involved the deployment of pilot wave energy converter at the Port of Bunbury that took place early in May.

The Australian wave energy developer is now assessing the performance of the pilot WEC, ahead of deployment of additional WECs, the company informed.

The multi-buoy demonstration wave farm will be deployed progressively, with the remaining two buoys expected to be installed following the completion of final testing of their data collection equipment.

Two additional WECs have been fabricated and are fitted with GPS tracking and remote sensor equipment to collect performance data.

Performance and environmental data will be evaluated for a pre‐feasibility assessment that is targeting the deployment of the company’s first commercial pilot wave farm.
