PSA Norway Inspects Telecommunications Systems on Gjoa

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA), with technical assistance from Telenor Maritime Radio, Radio Inspection, conducted an audit of the Gjøa facility during the period 26-27 September 2011.

The audit was a planned activity with a basis in the PSA’s prioritisation of major accident risk. The objective of the audit was to verify the technical condition and maintenance of radio and telecommunications systems on the facility, assessed against relevant requirements in the HSE regulations.

The overall impression following the audit of radio and telecommunications systems on Gjøa was good.  One nonconformity was identified in relation to the position of communications manager.

Furthermore, PSA Norway identified four nonconformities in relation to:

  • Labelling of emergency radio equipment
  • MOB boat antenna plug
  • Antenna for radio tower for helicopter navigation (NDB)
  • VHF DSC in helicopter tower
Gjøa lies in blocks 35/9 and 36/7. The field was proven in 1989. Reserves are estimated to be 82 million barrels of oil and condensate and 40 billion cubic metres of gas.
