Qatar: N-KOM and NDSQ Receive Teaching Staff from CNA-Q

N-KOM and NDSQ Receive Teaching Staff from CNA-Q

Nakilat, Qatar’s premier marine company, and its ship repair and shipbuilding joint ventures, N-KOM and NDSQ, received teaching staff from CNA-Q at their shipyard facilities last week to help promote marine industry careers to young Qatari Nationals.

The day-long event held on Monday March 4th enabled CNA-Q (College of the North Atlantic – Qatar) faculty to better understand the work and training processes of ship repairer N-KOM (Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine) and shipbuilder NDSQ (Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar).

As a result of the visit, CNA-Q’s teaching staff will be able to support the promotion of marine industry career opportunities with N-KOM and NDSQ to young Qataris studying at the technical college.

N-KOM and NDSQ are both based at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Ras Laffan. The companies offer unique training and career possibilities in fields such as engineering for young Nationals interested in working in Qatar’s marine industrial sector.

Commenting on the visit, Muhammad Ghannam, Nakilat’s Managing Director, said: “Nakilat and its joint venture companies are committed to Qatarization. The visit of CNA-Q’s staff to N-KOM and NDSQ will help boost awareness of the jobs and development programs available for young Qataris at our joint ventures. By recruiting, training and developing young Nationals, we can ensure that they assume leading positions within our companies, thus guaranteeing a successful future for Qatar’s marine industry.

Nakilat is a Qatari-owned marine company providing the critical transportation link in Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain, overseeing the activities of the country’s world-class shipyard, and assisting vessels in Qatari waters. Established in 2004 as a joint stock company — owned 50 per cent by its founding shareholders and 50 per cent by the public — Nakilat has the largest LNG shipping fleet in the world, comprising 54 LNG vessels.

N-KOM is a joint venture between Nakilat and Singapore-based Keppel Offshore & Marine, the global leader in ship repair, ship conversion and construction of offshore drilling rigs. Since beginning operations in 2010, N-KOM has completed work on more than 100 vessels, including over 50 LNG carriers.

NDSQ is a joint venture between Nakilat and Dutch shipbuilding group Damen Shipyards. NDSQ began operations in 2010 and builds ships in steel, aluminum and GRP, up to 170m in length. Projects recently completed by NDSQ include the 140m barge Al Ghatroushah and three mooring boats for the Port of Mesaieed.

CNA-Q is a comprehensive technical college with more than 650 staff and over 4,600 students, both full- and part-time. The college combines a Canadian curriculum with industry expertise in four key areas, including Engineering Technology.
