Qatar: Offshore Middle East Announces Inclusion of Student Paper Program at 2013 Event

Offshore Middle East has announced the inclusion of the inaugural Student Paper Program at the 2013 event taking place in Doha, Qatar on January 21-23, 2013. The purpose of the program is to showcase regional engineering talent and student development in regional universities.

The program also serves to bring together university students with technical experts in their fields of study and allow regional oil and gas companies to identify future talent.

The Offshore Middle East 2013 Student Program solicits submissions for technical papers in topical areas that include but are not limited to field development, drilling & completion, facilities engineering, flow assurance, pipeline construction & installation, platform construction & installation, subsea technology, reservoir management, production optimization, asset integrity, and well control.

Abstracts will be accepted from every major university in countries contiguous to the Gulf, plus such others as Egypt, Libya, and Turkey. A separate Call for Student Papers specifically targeting relevant university engineering departments will be prepared and sent to department chairs and presiding faculty.

The Offshore Middle East 2013 advisory board will evaluate all submissions and recommend a certain number of papers based on their relevance, technical soundness, and clarity. Slots in relevant Offshore Middle East 2013 technical sessions will be reserved for accepted student authors to present their papers.

All student authors and their universities will be recognized in the opening ceremony of Offshore Middle East 2013. Papers will also be displayed in a selected poster area where students may discuss their papers with event delegates.

Offshore Middle East 2013 Co-Conference Director, Dr. Warren R. True, Chief Technology Editor – LNG/Gas Processing – Oil & Gas Journal, stated, “The Offshore Middle East Student Paper Program is an excellent opportunity for students to engage with practicing professionals active in the industry and work on their career development. The program also allows Offshore Middle East to give back value to the region for the support that it has shown for this conference. We look forward to some exciting submissions and wish all entrants the best of luck.”

A special Student Paper Program sponsorship will be developed to support this endeavor. The sponsoring company or organization will be recognized at the event and opening ceremony and in conjunction with the accepted papers, have a company representative present each student author with gift in recognition of his or her accomplishment, and have photos taken with recipients.

Proceeds from the sponsorship will go towards a university scholarship program for the region.

To be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, Doha, on 21-23 January 2013, Offshore Middle East 2013 will continue to provide the best technical forum in the oil and gas exploration and production industry within the Middle East region.

Offshore Middle East 2013 will gather over 40 speakers from leading organizations around the world expected to present the very latest knowledge and technology within the oil & gas exploration and production industry.

Offshore Middle East 2013 will for the first time include a Gas Industry Operations track providing a comprehensive dual-track conference covering all aspects of natural gas and gas liquids as part of this technical track, parallel with the upstream and exploration emphasis, seen at previous Offshore Middle East events.

The Offshore Middle East Call for Abstracts deadline is fast approaching, with the deadline to submit an abstract set for 22nd November 2011. Once abstracts are received, Offshore Middle East Advisory Board will meet to discuss these submissions and form the Preliminary Conference Program, to be announced in 2012.
