QP’s Ocean LNG pens first supply deal with Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe

Qatar Petroleum’s newly established international trading arm, Ocean LNG, signed a long-term sale and purchase agreement with Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe, a joint venture between Golar Power and Ebrasil.

Under the deal, Ocean LNG will supply 1.3 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year to CELSE, on an ex-ship basis.

The shipments, which will begin in 2020 will be for use at CELSE’s Porto de Sergipe power project near Aracaju, in the Brazilian state of Sergipe, Qatar Petroleum said in a statement on Saturday.

Speaking of the contract, QP’s president and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said that with its first contract, Ocean LNG becomes the first supplier to deliver the chilled fuel to Brazil under a long-term deal.

According to CELSE, Porto de Sergipe I power plant will be located in the municipality of Barra dos Coqueiros, in the State of Sergipe, Brazil. It will be the largest combined cycle thermal power plant in Latin America.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of an integrated LNG import terminal and a gas-fired thermal power plant with an installed capacity of over 1.5GW.
