Russia: RS Class Assigned to Deep Water Diving System

Russia RS Class Assigned to Deep Water Diving System

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has accepted MGVK-300 diving system to its class. The system is a modular setup for deep diving designed for simultaneous work of 9 persons at a maximum depth of 300 metres. This is the first diving system in RS class designed to operate at such a depth.

The request for survey of the diving system was made to RS by the ‘Mezhregiontruboprovodstroy’, JSC under whose order the facility was constructed by LexMar Engineering Pte Ltd (Singapore). RS surveyors undertook the design review and plan approval, survey of testing. The system was surveyed in Singapore, the final stage including launching was held on Sakhalin island. All the system tests including a deep dive with people on board were satisfactory, therefore, a classification certificate was issued by RS and the RS class К✪ SDS was assigned. The system will be installed on board the supply vessel Kendrick and will enable a wide range of tasks connected to the repair and assembly of underwater facilities to be solved.

In connection with the development of offshore fields development projects, exploration and production of mineral and biological sea resources, search and rescue operations, underwater technical operations and other operations of that kind, the need for the construction and operation of manned submersibles and diving systems increases. RS takes an active part in projects aimed at construction and operation of these facilities within the framework of special programs developed by RF and by Russian oil and gas companies. At present, RS is engaged in the survey of diving systems construction designed to operate at various depths.
