Yantar Shipyard Starts State Trials for RV Seliger

Yantar Shipyard, in collaboration with the Russian Black Sea fleet specialists, started official state sea trials for Research & Survey Vessel Seliger a few days ago. According to the Ministry of Defense press service, the tests of the ship’s systems in various weather conditions are in full swing at Novorossiysk naval base.

RV Seliger, designed by the Central Marine Design Bureau “Almaz”, is the first out of two similar vessels that will be built for the Russian Navy. The contract for the construction of these vessels of Project 11982 and Project 22010, worth RUB 7 bln (approx $ 222.7 mln), was signed between Yantar Shipyard and the Defense Ministry in February 2009.

length – 59.7 m,

beam – 10.8 m,

displacement – about 1117 tons,

operational speed – 13 knots,

cruising range – 1,000 nm

crew – 16 + 9 researchers.

Main propulsion:

diesel generators BA 840 (3 x 840 kW) and BA 280 (2 x 280 kW).

Propulsion & Steering system:

rudder propeller Rolls Royce 12 FP (2 x 700 kW), Schottel Transverse Thrusters STT 170 T-LK (2 x 200 kW).

By 2014, the Russian research and scientific naval fleet will be enhanced by one more modern multi role vessel for testing new oceanographic equipment, exploring the World Ocean as well as conducting rescue operations at sea.
