Shimmer and Shine

The first months of 2015 have been very eventful for Dutch shipyard Amels. Both Madame Kate as well as the new Amels 180 have been launched at the company’s yard in Vlissingen and at least ten more new builds are on their way, says Amels.

First, Madame Kate was revealed on 31 January 2015, which is expected to be delivered in springtime 2015. The interior design of the 60-metre superyacht from the Amels 199 Limited Edition series is by Laura Sessa, the exterior design comes from the pen of Tim Heywood. The vessel has a distinctive bow shape that increases the sailing performance. Furthermore, the special shape of the yacht enables fuel savings of 15 per cent. Madame Kate is fitted with a with a touch-andgo helicopter pad on the foredeck.

Prism effect One of the other aspects of the yacht is the special effect of the new pearl-effect paint system. A pearlescent white which gives the outside of the vessel a prism effect. The paint has been custom-made after the owner’s wishes and also gives a sparkling effect at night due to the lighting system, which amongst others includes underwater lighting. The interior of Madame Kate allows for twelve guests, which can entertain themselves with for example a lounge deck aft, multiple jacuzzis and a gym. The wing doors allow access for two eight metre long tenders.

RoFlo launch

One month later, in February, an Amels 180 had a RoFlo launch in Vlissingen. RoFlo means the vessel was first lifted onto a floating pontoon, after which the yacht was moved to a floating drydock which submerged. This 55-metre yacht also has a Tim Heywood exterior design, and a dark blue paintwork which characterises the look of the 700 tonne weighing vessel.
