Sparrows Services Cranes on FPSOs (Australia)

Davie Brough, operations manager with Sparrows in Perth, Australia, is seeing evidence of the expected growth in Floating Production, Storage and Offtake facilities in the region.

His team has recently begun working on a 3 year contract with the Thai national oil company, PTTEP, to provide crane inspection and maintenance services on their Montara Venture FPSO which recently arrived on station on Australia’s North West Shelf.

The cranes supported will be a Seatrax S7220, a Nautilus 340BT and a Fukushima MV-17 engine room overhead gantry crane.

The FPSO workload continues with major overhauls of cranes on the Maersk Ngujima-Yin FPSO which, following sale to Woodside Petroleum, is heading to the Sembawang Yard for refurbishment before returning to Woodside’s Vincent field off Australia.

Sparrows technicians will changeout winches, gearboxes, brakes, hydraulic cylinders and other components on three Hydralift MCV 2201 cranes, an NOV OC 3426 and an NOV 2806.

Within these two projects lies ample evidence of Sparrows reputation as the ‘all-makes’ crane service contractor: these eight cranes span lattice boom, box boom, telescopic and gantry designs.
