Spotted: Iver Experience Sailing Close to Waterspout

In today’s spotted we bring you an image of the MT Iver Experience, a product/chemical tanker owned by Dutch shipping company Vroon, sailing past a waterspout in Singapore.

A waterspout is a weather phenomenon usually observed under cumuliform clouds during intense weather conditions associated with thunderstorms.

Waterspouts can occur at any time of the year, but more likely between March and October when intense thunderstorm formation is highly possible.

An average of three occurrences of waterspouts over Singapore waters has been reported yearly. In waters off Singapore, the speed of the movement of the waterspouts over water could be up to 8 metres per second (28 km/h).

MT Iver Experience is a 45,683 dwt tanker operated by Vroon’s company Iver Ships.

Featuring a length of 182.9 meters and a width of 32.2 meters, the 2000-built Iver Experience has a gross tonnage of 29,289 tons.

Iver Ships currently operates six handysize, five medium-range and fourteen bitumen tankers.
