Pitbull Christens Norwegian Escape

Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest ship and the first in its Breakaway Plus Class –the Norwegian Escape was christened on Monday in Port Miami.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings chief executive officer Frank Del Rio kicked off the festivities, followed by a performance by American rapper Armando Christian Pérez, better known by his stage name Pitbull, who also served as godfather for Norwegian Escape.

 “Norwegian Escape represents a major moment for us – this is a true evolution of our brand,” said Andy Stuart, Norwegian Cruise Line’s president and chief operating officer.

Norwegian Escape, the largest in Norwegian’s fleet of 14 vessels, features an elevated design.

Measuring 1,069 feet in length and 136 feet in width, the cruise ship was just delivered to NCL from German shipbuilder Meyer Werft. Norwegian Escape will sail weekly seven-day cruises from her year-round homeport of Miami to the Eastern Caribbean beginning on November 14, 2015.

The 164,600 gross ton ship will be the largest ever to home port year-round in Miami, carrying 4,200 guests to Caribbean destinations including St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas.
