The Emma Maersk, one of the largest containerships in the world, is featured in today’s spotted. The giant boxship has recently departed from France-based Damen Shiprepair Brest following drydock services, a special survey and maintenance work.

Only yards with extra large drydocks such as this one can accommodate ships such as the enormous Emma Maersk, which is seen below dwarfing the nearby vessels.

The vessel completed its second special survey plus assorted maintenance works at the shipyard, including the removal and subsequent refit of the propeller, which is among the heaviest in the world. The works also included the inspection of the boiler valves, ship side valves, inspection of the anchor and chains, and a complete wash down of the antifouling area, a total of 24,850 m2, what is equal to more than three football pitches.

“It’s been a privilege to work on such a ground-breaking vessel and great to see our largest dock accommodating a ship of her size,“ Boudewijn Baan, Sales Manager at Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, commented

Emma Maersk belongs to eight E-class ships built for the Maersk Group. When it was launched in 2016, Emma Maersk was the largest container ship ever built and as of 2007 the longest ship in use. Emma Maersk is able to carry around 11,000 TEU in the calculation of the Maersk company which is about 1,400 more containers than any other ship is capable of carrying.
