ABL, part of Oslo-listed global consultancy group ABL Group, has shaken hands with Egypt’s Petroleum Marine Services Co. (PMS) on the launch of a unified rig moving service in the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez, with the support of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

The new integrated service from PMS and ABL entails a centralized operations control for the Red Sea, detailed site survey and technical studies, operational risk analysis and weather impact modelling, high-capacity towing units and ASD vessels with up to 126t bollard pull, seabed survey capabilities and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) support, and a standardized workflow designed to reduce operational cost, minimize downtime, and enhance drilling continuity across the Gulf of Suez.

Amr Badway, Chairman and Managing Director of PMS, commented: “This service directly responds to the needs of production companies that seek a unified operational model that delivers efficiency, flexibility, and reliability, ultimately improving rig utilization and minimizing downtime.”

This Egyptian rig-moving partnership initiative is said to support Egypt’s strategic direction to enhance offshore operational efficiency, curb downtime, and elevate the standards of marine and drilling logistics across two of the country’s most dynamic offshore basins. ABL will support the country’s offshore industry with marine warranty, engineering, and rig move assurance services.

Captain Stephen Craig, ABL’s Director for Rig Operations, noted: “The dynamic marine environment in Egypt will definitely benefit from a unified operational framework. We will also ensure knowledge transfer to reinforce local capability and improve overall system reliability.”

As a technical and engineering partner, ABL claims to bring experience from more than 1,500 rig moves globally into the Egyptian offshore market; thus, its operational methodologies will be aligned with international standards.

PMS, an independent entity subsidiary of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, is seen as a key supplier of solutions and services for offshore construction projects of oil and gas fields in Egypt and the region.

Tamer Gamil, ABL’s Country Manager in Egypt, highlighted: “Bringing ABL’s global rig operations methodologies into the Egyptian market – through this partnership with PMS – creates a significant step forward in strengthening operational consistency, safety performance, and readiness.”

This partnership comes weeks after ABL secured a deal to oversee rig moves for India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and a marine warranty survey (MWS) and third-party support services related to wellhead platform installations and jack-up rig moves in Thailand.
