Strategic Marine progresses construction of LNG-powered catamarans

Strategic Marine recently informed that the construction of two 70 -meter LNG-powered aluminum vehicle and passenger catamarans for Rederij Doeksen is moving on schedule at the group’s yard in Vietnam.

Both vessels are on schedule for delivery to the Netherlands in early 2018 where they will undergo final commissioning and sea trials, the company said in a statement on Friday.

The vessels will operate between Harlingen on the mainland and the islands of Terschelling and Vlieland.

The RoPax ferries will have a capacity of 592 passengers and 66 cars each, with main propulsion coming from two single-fuel LNG engines, Strategic Marine said.

Ship’s power is generated by the two single fuel LNG generators while additional electricity is stored in battery banks for use with the electrically driven bow thrusters as well as providing main grid stabilization and peak shaving support.
