STX France Sells Its Lorient Shipyard

French shipbuilder STX France has decided to sell its Lorient shipyard located in Lanester to Kership, a joint venture between French industrial shipbuilder Piriou and naval manufacturer DCNS established in 2013.

The sale is to be completed in fall this year, according to STX France.

The company said it had received two proposals for the yard – one by Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN) and the other one by Kership.

DCNS welcomed the acquisition saying that it reinforces the consolidation of the French naval shipbuilding industry.

Hervé Guillou, CEO of DCNS said commenting on the purchase that the acquisition would help to strengthen the industrial activity of Lorient and competitiveness of French naval industry on the international market.

STX France Lorient has been engaged in construction of both civil and naval vessels.

Located at the mouth of the river Blavet in French region Brittany, the shipyard has operated since 1993 and is capable of producing vessels of up to 120 meters in length.
