STX OSV to Design and Construct Large PSV for Troms Offshore

STX OSV Holdings Limited, one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, announced that it has entered into a Letter of Intent with Troms Offshore Supply for the design and construction of one Platform Supply Vessel (PSV).

Troms Offshore and Statoil have agreed to enter into a charter for the operation of the vessel. The contract for the design and construction of the vessel is expected to be entered into by the end of June 2012.

The vessel, of STX OSV’s own PSV 07 design, is scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2013 from STX OSV in Norway. The hull will be delivered from STX OSV in Romania.

PSV 07 is a new innovative design developed by STX OSV. The vessel will be a Clean Class environmentally friendly diesel electric ship with focus on low fuel consumption and low emission of greenhouse gases. The vessel is 94.5 meters long and 21 meters wide with a free deck space of 1,170 m2. With a deadweight of 5,700 tons, this ship will be one of the largest PSVs in the market.

STX OSV already has one PSV under construction for Troms Offshore. Troms Offshore operates a fleet comprising 11 ships from its home port in Tromsø in northern Norway. The company is in the process of expanding its fleet of large, environmentally friendly ships for operations in the North Sea and in arctic waters.
