TGS at work offshore Africa and in US Gulf

Project & Tenders

Norwegian energy data and intelligence company TGS has commenced two new offshore acquisition campaigns, one in Angola and the other in the Gulf of America.

In a strategic collaboration, TGS and SLB announced on February 10 the launch of Engagement 9, the latest phase of the companies’ ocean bottom mode (OBN) multi-client campaign in the Gulf of America.

The campaign covers 161 OCS blocks in the Walker Ridge protraction area, said to be one of the Gulf of America’s most prolific deepwater provinces, with the new dataset expected to deliver improvements in subsurface illumination. The project’s areal coverage includes the Stones, Jack, St. Malo, and Cascade producing assets.

Acquisition is expected to be finished in July, with final data products anticipated for release in H2 2027.

“TGS is proud to expand our OBN data portfolio in the Gulf of America through continued collaboration with SLB. Engagement 9 reflects our shared commitment to technological innovation and to delivering the highest value subsurface insight to our customers. With the application a low frequency source and the strategic coverage of key producing hubs, this project provides a unique opportunity to drive improved imaging and future exploration success in one of the world’s most productive deepwater environments,” said Kristian Johansen, CEO at TGS.

A day later, the Norwegian company announced the start of the UltraProfundo multi-client 2D survey offshore Angola, which covers approximately 12,600 line kilometers.

Operations began earlier in the first quarter of 2026, performed by Ramform Victory.

Data acquisition is estimated to be completed in approximately 100 days, with fast-track products available in Q3. Full data processing is scheduled for completion in Q2 2027.

Angola’s ultra deepwater margin represents one of the mostexciting frontier exploration opportunities in West Africa. Our Ultra Profundo multi-client2D program delivers high-quality seismic coverage needed to unlock pre-salt andsub-salt potential. By leveraging TGS’ acquisition and imaging capabilities, wewill provide high-quality data supporting future exploration activities,” Johansen noted.
