Thuraya Showcases Specialised Solutions at MSD Show in Germany

Thuraya, the international mobile satellite services operator will be one of the key exhibitors at the Maritime Security and Defense (MSD) Exhibition and Conference to be held in Hamburg later this month. At this event which is focused on upgrading maritime security and defense systems, Thuraya will be presenting a range of satellite telecom solutions that are specially customised for the requirements of maritime and military sectors.

The biennial MSD forum brings together over 1,300 global participants from maritime, security and defense industries. At this show which combines key market segments for satellite telecom providers, Thuraya will be showcasing a robust and integrated portfolio of satellite broadband and voice solutions.

The portfolio includes the world’s smallest satellite broadband solution to support 384 Kbps streaming “Thuraya IP’, a marine-grade high speed data terminal that provides speeds up to 444 kbps “Comtech MarineNet Pro” and the world’s toughest satellite handheld “Thuraya XT”.

Thuraya IP is the most portable satcom broadband solution. It is an A5 sized terminal that supports up to 444 Kbps standard IP, and the only broadband solution that offers asymmetric streaming, which translates into cost efficiency for streaming video applications. Thuraya XT is the only satellite handheld with GPS waypoint navigation and has the fastest data service in the market.

Thuraya will also be displaying three tailor-made solutions catering to the differing needs of the international maritime industry as well as the smaller fisheries and sea-leisure activities. The most prominent offering is the Comtech MarineNet Pro which provides broadband speeds up to 444 Kbps in addition to video-streaming capabilities up to 384 Kbps. This light-weight and compact device has been specially designed for maritime use and thus complies with international maritime standards.

Supporting Comtech MarineNet Pro is a phased array antenna that provides electronic tracking capabilities. This specialised antenna connects to the satellite instantly and in rough sea and weather conditions therefore meeting the needs of coastguards and navy fleets.

The second terminal is Seagull 5000i which is a cost-effective solution for small sized and fishing boats. Developed in partnership with Addvalue Technologies, the terminal provides voice, data, SMS and fax services that are based exclusively on Thuraya’s satellite network. Thuraya will also be exhibiting Thuraya Marine which is a multi-communication device that offers voice, data, SMS and fax services onboard ships as well as emergency distress calling.

Similarly, Thuraya offers a Lease service which ensures dedicated bandwidth to defense users. A unique feature of this service is “Follow Me” lease which ensures that users have connectivity wherever they may be located within Thuraya’s satellite footprint. The advantage of “Follow Me” lease is that consumers are not restricted to bandwidth within a certain spot beam or region, making it ideal for navy fleets which travel across wide expanses of sea. The uniqueness of Thuraya Lease service is that users can buy bulk bandwidth for multiple terminals and accordingly assign and configure bandwidth based on their individual requirements. Thuraya Lease is based on the Company’s broadband data solutions such as Thuraya IP.

Thuraya’s Vice President, Corporate and Marketing Communications, Mr. Ebrahim K. Ebrahim, says “Thuraya provides a full suite of satellite telecom solutions that are supported by robust network that dynamically allocates resources in areas of high demand, which make it fully capable of meeting the dynamic needs of both the maritime and defense sectors.”

He also added that Thuraya’s satellite network covers the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, Mediterranean, Arabian Sea, North Sea, Baltic Sea, large parts of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and international waters in the Asia-Pac rim, positioning it as an ideal telecom choice for consumers who require uninterrupted connectivity at sea.

Maritime Security and Defense exhibition conference and exhibition will be taking place from 15th to 17th June.
