Tianjin Xingang Repairs MV TONG YUAN’s Bow

The shiprepair yard of Tianjin Xingang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. successfully repaired the damaged bulbous bow of MV “TONG YUAN”, which was for the first time at the yard.

The bulbous bow of MV “TONG YUAN” was damaged seriously and needed the renewal of approximately 15m2 steel plates. In addition to steel renewal, the  work included painting of the steel plate of the vessel’s ballast tank according to Performance Standard of Protective Coatings (PSPC).

In order to complete the work smoothly, the project group undertook considerable preparation activities ranging from surface preparation of the steel plate, controlling of salinity, roughness and cleaning to re-coating of the renewed area.

The repair served as a great opportunity for the Shipyard to get acquainted with the PSPC procedures and requirements, which will come in handy for undertaking similar work in the future.
