UK: Grimsby Port Plans Dock Expansion

UK’s busiest car-handling port, the Port of Grimsby, plans to undertake a huge £25m dock expansion.

The Port of Grimsby already had 635,000 vehicles pass through the docks in 2010.

The money is to be used to construct a new terminal to handle an increase in car imports“, said Associated British Ports, dock owners.

Construction work will start in early 2012, with the first vessels expected to berth in the fall of 2013.

Currently, facility is restricted to an 800-car cargo due to the old lock gates, but the new facility will handle boats carrying up to 3,000 vehicles.
