UK: Hydratight Wins Five Star Health and Safety Audit Award

Hydratight staff joined other recipients to collect an internationally-recognised British Safety Council health and safety accolade at a prestigious ceremony at the HQS Wellington, London.

Hydratight won the coveted Five Star Health and Safety Audit Award following a rigorous inspection, which concentrated on safety organisation, management control, fire control systems, measurement procedures and workplace implementation.

Following the evaluation by independent auditors, organisations are given star ratings – from one to five – to indicate the effectiveness of their safety programmes. Hydratight achieved the top rating in only three years – remarkable in the often-hazardous oil and gas industries in which the company chiefly operates.

Top names in the health and safety industry attended the presentation in July to see Hydratight receive the award at the classic central London venue.

Alex Botha, chief executive of the British Safety Council, says: “A positive company image through first-class health and safety is vital. It not only makes excellent business sense to have the safest workplace possible, but it also boosts the morale of employees.

“I hope other companies will take the lead from Hydratight and forge the way towards a safer future with a Five Star award.”

“It’s a credit to the dedication of everyone involved, that we’ve received this accolade and we are determined to maintain — and even improve on our five-star status,” added EMEA HSEQ manager, Dave Stout.

Hydratight is now eligible to apply for the BSC’s highest safety rating, the Sword of Honour — of which only 40 are awarded worldwide each year.

“To receive a sword a company must demonstrate extraordinary competence in managing health and safety risks,” said Dave. “There has to be a proven culture of aiming for best practice throughout the entire organisation — which I am pleased to say we have. We are determined to aim for the elite rating next year.”
