UK: Kommer Damen Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

During the Seawork Awards Dinner on 22 May, Kommer Damen was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Arnout Damen, COO of Damen Shipyards Group, accepted the inaugural award on behalf of his father from Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent and Hill Head.

After working in the family business, Kommer Damen set up his own enterprise with just six workers and introduced the modular shipbuilding concept for small boats and launches. This standarisation, called the Damen Standard, made it possible to have shorter delivery times, significant cost reduction and proven designs.

Today, Damen Shipyards Group is a successful global enterprise with more than 6,000 employees and a presence in 35 countries. The company has built over 5,000 vessels and now builds 40% of the world’s new tugs.

Damen Shipyards in February received an order for two PSV 3300 CD’s from World Wide Supply (WWS), a newly established Norwegian shipowner. The vessels will be delivered end of 2013 and operated by Remøy Management AS.

Also, the company last month delivered two Fast Crew Supplier vessels to the Cyprus based EDT Offshore.
