Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Joins IMarEST Partner Scheme

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is the most recent organisation joining the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) Marine Partner scheme – the second Malaysian university to do so in a matter of months.

As one of the country’s leading university in engineering and technology, UTM is a graduate focused university emphasising high-end research, innovative technology and value-driven initiatives. The university’s existence is thus synonymous with Malaysia’s growth and progress in technological and infrastructure development, proven by its track record as the provider of almost two-thirds of the country’s workforce in engineering and technology-related professions.

”We are working with IMarEST on accreditation of a Bachelor Program newly introduced namely B.Eng. Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering (SKMO). This program is an updated version of our previous Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering – Marine Technology program. The old program has been running since 1983 whereas the new program was introduced in 2011. We also run the M.Eng Marine Technology course, and at Ph.D level we offer PhD in Mechanical Engineering,” explains Professor Zamani from UTM’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. “We are delighted to welcome UTM as a Marine Partner,” says IMarEST’s Chief Executive, David Loosley. “They have developed and offered an interesting range of courses for both undergraduates and graduates, and are working with our accreditation team in relation to this strong programme.”

“As a Marine Partner they will benefit in many ways including accreditation for their programmes; involvement at committee level with the IMarEST Young Members Network. Like all our Marine Partners, they now have the ability to work closely with us on branding partnership opportunities, global networking, spreading awareness of our information and knowledge services; and gaining invaluable discounts on our world-renowned events and conferences programme. We are working closely with them to put in place a programme that suits their aims and objectives, and that will help to provide their students with a lifelong link with the Institute.”

In fact, the alumni of UTM comprise outstanding and distinguished personalities who have played a pivotal role in contributing towards the development of the country. UTM leads other public universities in Malaysia in terms of high employability rates. As such, membership of the Marine Partners initiative with its range of benefits will yet be another bonus for UTM students.
