USA: Global Industries Takes Possesion of Global 1200 Derrick/Pipelay Vessel

US based Global Industries is about to take delivery of the first of two deep-water derrick pipelay vessels from Keppel Singmarine, Singapore. The vessels are designed by Ulstein Sea of Solutions in The Netherlands.

The first newbuild, the Global 1200, was named on 18 September. The vessel is in its final construction phase and will perform sea trials in the next few weeks. Global Industries expects to take delivery of a sister vessel, Global 1201, from Keppel Singmarine in Q3 2011.

The dynamically-positioned Global 1200 is a combined derrick/pipelay vessel, and is a customized version of the Ulstein Sea of Solutions’ SOC 600 design. The design incorporates an AmClyde single post crane on the aft and a centre firing line on the freeboard deck. The vessel has a lifting capacity of 1,200 tonnes, 400 tonnes deep water lowering system capacity, and is capable of operating in up to 3000 metres water depth.

The vessel is propelled by two 4,500kW thrusters providing a trial speed of 15 knots. Combined with the five retractable thrusters of 2,400kW each and an 880kW tunnel thruster the vessel is classed DPII, however generator room and switchboard lay-out meet DPIII requirements to provide additional redundancy.

The newbuild measures 162.3 m overall, with length (Bpp) of 153.4 m, breadth (moulded) of 37.8 m, depth (moulded) of 16.1 m, and draft (design) of 6.3 m. The vessel’s total installed power is 3 x 4,230kW and 3 x 3,760kW.
