USA: Lessons Learned from Deepwater Horizon Disaster

A year on from Deepwater Horizon (Macondo), Energy Director Iain Light talks about lessons learned in the May edition of Offshore Engineer.

As highlighted by Senator Bob Graham, Macondo would not have happened if there had been “the capacity and will to demand world-class safety standards.” But what do world-class safety standards look like?

Iain (pictured Left) discusses this in his article, concluding that competence testing, true independent oversight and a stronger focus on the human element are the lessons from Macondo.
