RWE Dea Invites Visitors to Learn More on Mittelplate (2)

Germany’s oil company RWE Dea today announced that an info-point has been opened in the Deichpassage in Friedrichskoog-Spitze, to provide more information on the Mittelplate drilling and production island to visitors.

Touch-screens, interactive games and multimedia partitions explain how oil is produced in the Wadden Sea tidelands. By means of an interactive knowledge quiz, visitors can find out how much crude oil is part of key items used in everyday life.

The Info-Point will be open from 21 March until early September, from Thursdays to Sundays from 14:00h to 17:00h. To open the season, the popular contact point in Friedrichskooger Deichpassage will be welcoming its visitors with new exhibits on show. Hermann Rohr will be available as for answering questions on subjects to do with oil production. The Mittelplate series of lectures will also be starting in March, with new and exciting topics surrounding domestic oil production.

Experiencing geology a little differently
This year, visitors can look forward to the new topic wall entitled “The origin of Mittelplate crude oil”. The interactive module explains the Mittelplate crude oil reservoir in a playful way, dealing with the various rock strata and the development and origin of the oil. Rock samples from the underground as well as fossils can be explored by children and adult visitors themselves. “We also focus on dialogue and interaction as far as the new topic wall is concerned,” explained Derek Mösche, Press Spokesman of RWE Dea AG. “By means of our interactive elements, we’d really like to encourage the visitors to the Info-Point to become actively engaged as well and to make Mittelplate capable of being experienced by young and old.”

The Mittelplate series of lectures successfully launched last year will also be continued this year. At regular intervals, RWE Dea staff members provide interesting insights into topics surrounding Mittelplate. At 18:00h on Thursday, 28 March 2013, the first lecture will be held on the subject of “The path of the oil – from the Mittelplate reservoir to the Dieksand Land Station.” Additional topics for lectures and dates will be announced by posters and event news in the region as well as on the website www.mittelplate.de. Attendance is free of charge and restricted to 25 visitors.
