Video: TackReach tidal prototype generating power

The video shows TackReach tidal prototype in operation at Skjoldastraumen sound in Norway.

Norwegian tidal energy developer, Tidal Sails, developed a two-station tidal energy device which operates with sails going back and forth – one sail leg is reaching with the current, and the other is tacking up against the current – inspiring the name TackReach.

The scaled TackReach prototype, dubbed Frøya, was tested in the second part of 2016 at Skjoldastraumen sound.

The power produced from the device was fed to Norwegian national grid, until the completion of the trials and subsequent device removal from the sound in October 2016.
