Video: Wärtsilä progresses Tornio Manga LNG terminal construction

Finnish LNG specialist, Wärtsilä, has continued the development of the Tornio Manga LNG terminal at the Port of Röyttä. 

According to the company, it will be the largest LNG receiving terminal in the Nordic region, and it will primarily provide natural gas to the Outokumpu Tornio steel mill, but will also serve industries, mines, and other potential gas consumers in the region.

Going forward, it may also supply LNG to ships operating in the Bay of Bothnia.

The company recently released a video of the progress made on the construction of the terminal during the summer and autumn 2016.

The building housing the fire pumps and the jetty control building have been completed as well as the vapor barrier welding and the bottom insulation work on the 50,000-cbm LNG storage tank. The LNG storage tank is 70 percent complete, and currently, work is ongoing on the inner-tank spiral welding.

According to the video, the site work continues with the construction of buildings, installation of process equipment and piping and the installation of electrical equipment.

The project is scheduled for completion in early 2018 while the start of commercial operation is expected mid-year, with costs estimated around €100 million.
