Vroon anchor handler to work in Gulf of Thailand for Ophir

Oil company Ophir Energy has chartered one of Vroon’s anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels.

According to data from VesselsValue, Ophir has hired the 2012-built VOS Atlas anchor handler owned by Vroon Offshore Services.

The contract is for two years and it started on September 30, 2017. The deal is expected to end on September 29, 2019.

According to the latest AIS data, the vessel has left the port in Thailand and is heading for the Ophir-operated Bualuang oil field in the Gulf of Thailand.

The Bualuang oil field in the Gulf of Thailand has been on-stream since 2008. The field was initially thought to contain 15 mmbo of 2P reserves and have a productive life of approximately five years. However, the field has undergone numerous reserve upgrades, and by October 2015, it had produced its 25 millionth barrel.

Ophir Energy sanctioned the fourth phase of the Bualuang field development in May this year. The total investment forecast for the phase stands at $145 million from sanctioning until 2020.

As for the vessel, it was built by Fujian South East Shipyard, China, and delivered to Vroon in 2012. The VOS Atlas is 59.25 meters wide, 15 meters wide, and can accommodate 40 people.
